MINING NEWS.
[Peb United Press Association.] Dunedin, Oct. 28. Dunedin Exchange sales: -Alexandra Lead 16s 9d, Great Central 3s, Hartley and Riley 3ds, Prince Arthur 13s, Upper A'aipori 12s 6J, Waimumu Central 6s (?). Those, besides the manager, who were involved in the slip from the face of the Lion claim, Nokomai, reported yesterday, were Messrs .v'-eek and T. Stirling, blacksmith and foreman respectively. It is satisfactory to'earn that none of the injuries sustained were very serious. Both tho Rand and the Kalgoorlie goldfields publish crushing returns for the month of July. They exhibit some interesting comparisons. The Kalgoorlie yields per ton are about double those of the Rand, but the working expenses are proportionately heavier, and the net results are generally worse. For example, Ferreira Deep crushed 6935 tons f0r41540z of gold, an average of tinder lldwt per ton, and cleared £9500. The Associated, of Western Australia, crushed 5020 tons, for 45380 z of gold, an average of nearly an ounce to the ton, and had no reportable profit. One ounce per ton at Kalgoorlie seems to bo worth only half an ounce per ton on the Rand.
