ATTEMPT TO PENALISE LOYALTY. CAPE LABOUR MARKET OVER- • STOCKED. REFER THEM TO KRUGER. (Per United Press Association.) By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. CAPETOWN, Oct. 26. During a debate in Parliament in the agricultural vote in committee, the Afrikander Bond members objected to an increase of salary cf the Chief Inspector of Sheep, on the ground that he acted as an intelligence officer during the war. Dr Smartt declared that his party would debate the matter for a month if need be in order to prevent punishing a man for his loyalty.
A meeting of the working men at Capetown requested Sir Gordon Sprigg to warn artisans and other emigrants against coming to South Africa, owing to the scarcity of employment. LONDON, Oct. 26.
Dr Loyds hus informed former Transvaal officials, now in Europe, that the ex-Government is unable to compensate them owing to lack cf funds, lie added that nothing was decided on their behalf at the Vereeniging Conference, when the terms of settlement were discussed. • He refused to advise them to serve Britain. As a result of Dr Leyds’ disclosures, a committee has been appointed to proceed to London to interview Mr Chamberlain.
