Dunedin Horse Saleyards.
Mesara Wright, Stephenson and Co. report as follows :— We held our weekly salo on •Saturday, 21«t inst., when we submitted a fair number oi horses, chiefly draughts, for public competition. Tho entry included 13 of the best draught geldings that have been . ..offei^44n Dunedin forborne time— a consign■jvinerif from that well-kr_s^n judge, Mr Tho . 1 4ty$er, .jpf Invercargi_r_.^The attendance of buyers <>f draughts wa_<_-nall, as was naturally to be expected, in view of our great annual sale of (. lydesdale horses on Tuesday, 24 ch inst., for which fixture intending purchasers of droughts were holding back. In consequence of this, Mr Ryder's consign^ ment did not meet with the attention the undoubted quality of the horses merited, and only a few of them were sold. For the same vendor w e' offered the finest bay dog-cart cob g.lding that we have seen in Dunedin for many _ a day. The cob was fiveyoars old, got by the imported hackney stallion Saturn, and was F shown in harness. After some very spirited bidding, he became the property of Mr, E. ' H. Hart, of Anderson's Bay, at £34, andrthe ' purchaser may certainly be congratulated 1 upon having the best horse of his class in (hia ' district. For another southern client we also l ' ■ sold an upstanding harness gelding at " ■ £25, and on behalf of other vendors half n - dozen aged draughts from £21 to £34. We ' quote : Strperior 3'oung draught geldings ' £40 to £50, extra good prize norses £51 to 5 £55, medium draught naros and geldinga £30 to £38, aged do £18 to £29, upstanding f oa riage hor_es £30 to £30, well- matched ' carriage pairs £80 to £90, strong spring-van 5 horses £30 to £36, milk-cat t and butchers' 5 order-cart horses £18 to £27, tram houses ' £12 to £16, light hacks £10 to £15, extra * good hacks £18 to £25, weedy and aged t hacks and barness horses, £4 to £8.
