SYDNEY PLAGUE STATISTICS WATER : SHORT COMMONS I TRADE WITH NEW HEBRIDES N.Z. INSURANCES ON CROCKERY SYDNEY, March 16. Received 16th, 5.22 p.m. A man named Carroll is plagued at ErskineWUe. To date there have been 60 cases, 18 deaths, and 10 have been discharged cured. Received 16th, 5.30 p.m. In consequence of the drought lessen ing the city water supply the inhabi tants are only allowed to use it for domestic purposes. A deputation from the Chamber oi Commerce waited on Premier Barton to ask for consideration of Australian trade in the New Hebrides. They referred to the dangerous competition of the French in New Caledonia ; pressed for the appointment of a British Resident, and asked for better facilities for ♦he employment of natives. Mr Barton, in reply, said he expected that a Resident would be appointed immediately. He did not favour a Customs agreement with New Hebrides, but was anxious to increase British influence by ail legitimate means. Received 17tb, 1.9 a.m. A woman (Fairlie) is plagued at CamperdowH. BRISBANE, March 16 Meyers' insurances amount to L 27,000, including L 4500 in the South British and L 4400 in the New Zealand insurance offices.
