[I'er United Press Association . ] Wellington, Oct. 23. Mr Seddon has received the following cablegram from Col". Porter, commanding the Seventh New Zealand Contingent : - " This by convoy. Campaigning away from posts. Engage?! Botha's force ou 4fch, oth, and 6th October as already reported ; wounded doiDg well. Battle on 6th lasted eight hours, the enemy, 2000 strong, being J defeated at all points. New Zealanders I charged and captured the first position, an j important hill on the enemy's right flank, and hold it under exceedingly heavy Gre concentrated from front and flanks. New Zealandera were the first in action. Their courage ami reliability being h ; ghly estimated they are consequently always employed to carry out the most hazardous [ duties. The contingent's casualties were two killed and seven wounded ; re3t well,"
