A small commando appearing at Saldanha Bay, on the south-west coast ofCape Colony, residents boarded a passing steamer and signalled the gunboats, which shelled and dispersed the Boers. Hasbrouk, a member of the Vryburg Divisional Council, has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment for iuviting the Boers to invade the district. j It was Arthur J. Vogan, the Australian ' scout, who captured Commandant Scheepers, who is now recovering from appendicitis. Major Holmes captured Commandant David Marais, at Reitvlei, on the Ist October.
