There wore 109,418 whites in the concentration tiamps in September, including 54,326 children ; 2411 died during the month, including 1964 children. Oct. 20. Received 21st, 1.3 a.m. Earl Roberts, |at the Mansion House, in response to the toast of ' ' The Imperial Forces" doubted if ever an army was more severely tried than during the last two years. The country was most deeply in- i debtecl for the very material help of the colonials, who exhibited extraordinary intelligencu, perseverance and determination, undergoing groat hardships and privations without a murmur : doing everything cheerfully and in a soldierlike manner.
