Oolonial securities — New South Wales 4 per cents, 114 ; 3i's, 102 f ; 3's, 94£; Victorian 4's, 112 ;*3^s, 104; 3's, 96|; South Australian 3£'s, 105 ; 3's, 93; Queensland 4's, 107 ; New Zealand 4's, 112 A;; SJ's, 104 3's, 97; Tasmanian 3^'s, 104 ; West rai ian 3|'s, 102|. The wheat markets are firm but inactive. Cargoes are hardening. Victorian and South Australian of October shipments, 28s 9d, prompt deliveries sailer parcels, 27s Bd. Sugar is firm — German, 7s 7£d ; first marks, 9s 3d. No. 1 pig iron, f.o.b. on Olyde, 53s 9d per ton. Wool — Antwerp wool sales will be held on 22nd to 25th and 9855 bales will b 9 offered, including 550 Australian. Wool — Bradford tops quiet : common sixties, 19d ; super, 20d. Received 18th, 10.40 p.m. A Reuter's message states that Ibur Aschid, Ameer of Nejd, bribed the Vali of Bassorah to co-operate in an attack on Maraboukh, Sheik of Koto eyt. Ibur Aschid moved 10,000 troops to the vicinity of Koweyt, but British intervention preventing Tv rk ish co-operation Ibur Aschid informed the Sultan of the plot and the Sultan recalled the Vali, and requested Ibur Aschid to return. All is now quiet though British warships remain in the vicinity. Received 18th, 11 p.m. Lord George Hamilton, in a letter to Mr Baird, member for Central Glasgow explaining the reasons why the Indian Government had placed a large order for locomotives in Germany, expressed a hope that British firms would expand their powers of production. A firm in Hanover had tendered 25 per cent, lower and had offered to deliver in half the time compared with the tenders of British firms. The U.S. naval estimates for 1903 total 99 million dollars and provide for the construction of three battleships and two armoured cruisers, and for spending twenty million dollars on docks and shipyards. The anti-im-perialistic newspapers denounce the naval programme. Russia is mobilising Cossacks in the Ural, Orenburg aud Semiretcheusk provinces.
