The ship Weatland, oi the Shaw, Sarill and Albion Go's line, arrived from London early yesterday morning, and was berthed at the lower anchoiage, where a quantity of powder was transhipped. The Wesdan i will berth to-day. Her passage from London has been made in 95 days, and she has general oarsro for this port, consisting of 1500 tons. The steamer Abbej Holtne waa expected to finish takio? in oats last night, and »ili sail to-d»y for Lyttelton tn complete loading for the Cape. The handsome s.s Kotomahana—the first ooeangoinjr ghip built of btsel-has reoeotly been subject to an oveihau! whinh practically meant renovation after 22 years of arduous work. Her gix boilers have been remored, and four ot modern type and carrying a much greater pressure of steam substituted ; the engines aUo hare been largely reconstructed, while the passenger accommodation has been entirely renovated and extended to house fifty additional passengers On a trial the other day the old "preyhound" reeled oS over 16 knots ftQ hoar and, now, on her first business trip has made the passage from Lyttelton to Wei ing-ton In 11 hours 5 m nuteg, whioh is 19 minutes less than her previous quickest trip.
