Like a Worm in the Bud.

TO THX KXtfTOR. Si*,— Referring to your leader in Thurs day's issue re declining birthrate, the enclosed letter, from the O.D. Times of 13th October, iQOO, will show what some women think about this matter, and I think they ought to have a say in the matter as well as editor- and Parliament. Mr Seddon a bringing in of a bill to deal with this question reminds me of what Mr J. W. Kelly said when asked, at one of his meetings, if he could not get Invercargill shifted a few degrees farther north ? He said he would speak to Mr Seddon about it and he would bring in a bill to have it done. I think Mr Seddon has undertaken a task quite as difficult. Following is the letter, which yon will probably make room for -. — " Kindly allow me, through the medium of your columns, to thank the two writers, T. Buxton and " Cantab," for their manly and sensible letters. I am sure there are hundreds of women, who, like myself, would like to give them a hearty handshake to express the gratitude they feel. Would the other men (?) who uphold the principle of large fami-to, and the nobility of such, etc., hold the same views if the tables were reversed, and tbey had the same jaws of death and agony to enter so often ? If such were the case, I fancy the number of the family would never exceed one — noble and all a.-* it was, and even though the Bible upheld it. It makes women feel ill when men talk about it being according to the Scriptures, etc. — I am, etc., I_u_-_A-io**." I am, 4a, T. Buxton. 87th Sept.
