The fir§i prize went to a nine-year old cow which was 220 days gene in milk on the day of ih<triol. and which yielded 32ib 2 z of milk, or about 34 gallons. On being tested for buttar fat the milk of this cow wa« foand to produce 2 b 4W of batter, or at the ra'e of lib of butter "to every 14lt> of milk. Eveo bett r than thii was the performance 1 f ar. other of the oowa whiob gave lib 13£ z of batter from 241 b 6oz of milk, or a ratio of lib of batter to 13 221 bof milk. Several of the other competit rs ia tba test also gave milk of each rich quality that let* than 1£ gallorn sufficed to produce lib of batter. Ia remarkable cootrasfi with the performances of these, however, was the record of one of tbe cow* whioh only gave 14{oz of baiter out of 251 b 12oz of milk, or lib of butter to every 28.89>b of milk. 80 well did ih* t wen »y-one cows entered for the competitioD acquit themselves a» a wb le, however, thut their net average wt s lib 12^0/ of batter to i- very 291 b 7£oz of milk, or lib of butter to 16 s lib of n>ilb^
