Wyndham

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. ) At a meeting of the Wyndham and Mataura Island branches of the Farmers Union in the Oddfellows Hall on Thursday afternoon it was decided that Messrs Jamos Milne and Hugh McCall shall represent Wyndham and Mataura Island respectively at the conference at Milton. Canvassers for support in reviving the A. and P. Society's show are receiving great encouragement in the matter of promises of cash guarantees, and doubtless the necessary entries for the show will also be forthcoming. The installation of Bro. T. A. Connor as Worshipful Master of Lodge Mokoreta was celebrated by a supper and oall on Wednesday night ; a large number of visitors were present and a happy time was spent. At a meeting of the Athletic Club, held in the Railway hotel on Thursday night, Mr G. Hunter in the chair, the following officers were appointed :— Programme committee : President (Mr G. Hunter), secretary (Mr DA. Raymond), I)r Rogers and Mr J. Golding ; sub-committee : Messrs Currie, Woods and J. Illingworth to arrange cycling events ; the programme to be submitted to a meeting to be held on 4th October. Collectors were appointed to canvass for monetary support, the president and secretary to arrange for special train for sports day ; the band to be offered £5 5s to play on the grounds and before the opening of the concert ; tenders to be called for the privileges. The annual meeting of the Anglers' Society was held on Thursday night, Mr H. C. Allan in the chair. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £2 Sa G<\. The following ofHeers were elected : — Messrs H. C. Allan, President ; R. S. Drummond and W. A. Leitch, Vice- Presidents ; D. F. Bremner, secretary ; Messrs James Mitchell, A. Simpson and G. O'Brine, committee. It was deoided that no worm fishing be allowed in competitions. The three prizes for the first competition will be a landing net and handle, gift of Messrs J. Wilkie and Co : a trophy, the gift of the Society, and a fly book, gift of Mr J. Mitchell. The President promised a gold medal for the best two of three competitions. It was resolved to hold a dinner on the evening of the second competition and a social during the season if thought advisable. 27th Sept.
