Mr Baxton a Appeals

TO THE EDITOU. Sm,— ln his letter, of 24th inst. Mr Buxton makes two appeals ; first to Christians, and, next, to Caisar, or the people, to abstain from drinking vinous or spirituous liquors. If his appeals were simply to in dividuals to abstain for the sake nf helping the weak to keep sober, no one need object, and many who are not prohibitionists might comply, and, I believe do already comply. But what he really means is that they should not only abstain voluntarily in order to induce others, who are intemperate, to do the same ; but they should help him to obtain a majority to voto "no license, " and thereby romj^.l the minority to abstain against their will, and thus deprive them of their Christian liberty and political rights, lam. ic, ' Berkan. Sept. 26th. [This correspondent is closed. — Ku. J
