C. Bates, and it being the first wedding in the church the customary Bible was presented to tho bride. The s.s. There .i Ward afterwards ti wed the Mystery, with the wedding guests, round to Horse-Shoe Bay, where the party were greeted with rockets, and as the vessels parted company hearty cheers were exchanged.
Woollen Mills. — It vill be seen irom a telegram from Napier, published to-day, that Messrs W. Ross and Son have concluded negotiations with a joint st.rck company, whereby they remove their plant to the northern city. This is regretable, as the Intel}' established industry was growing nicely. It is satisfactory to know, however, that the firm is not taking tbe stop because of dissatisfaction with the trade done nor the progress made, but for family reasons solely. The arrangement made with the Hawkes Bay Company includes a great deal more than the plant in the Puni Creek mills, Messrs Ross and Son having a complete weaving plant now on its way out, and this also goes into the now venture, which the friends of the firm and family will be pleased to see have a prosperous issue. The loss of an industry which has taught a good many of our young people a handicraft is not to be viewed with equanimiy. but fortunately another master of industry, Mr William Cruickshank, is just about making a start in the same line at Rosedale, with a tine plant.

Sihikuan FiRK.—Mr A, Darling's boil-jug-down Works at Mill Road were destroyed by fire between one and two o'clock yesterday morning. Flames were tir°t seen ny a neighbour, coming from a part of one of the buildings where there was no lireplace and no tire was used, and Mr Darling has not the least doubt that the destruction was the work of au incendiary, the miscreant having evidently selected a suitable starting place and wind to ensure the speedy demolition of the six buildings, together with the entire plant and stock. The whole concern was recently valued at £I_oo, ami is insured for only £..00. The working plant included two digesters, two bone mills and a steam engine ; and amongst the goods destroyed were 30 casks of tallow, '24 tons bonedust, 10 bales of wool and sheep skins, and a bale of horse hair. Mr Darling has been singularly unfortunate in the matter of fires, this being the fourth time he has been burnt out within twenty years, ln addition to this he s.me four years ago lost heavily on shipments of skins and tallow to London, which caused him to reliiujuish business for sonic time. Through tho kindness of two lending mercantile houses in town and sundry friends, who recognised lus sterling integrity, Mr Darling was enabled to make another start, and so satisfactorily was his business progressing that he expected, by tho end of the year, to pay off his old liabilities. His latost mi..tortune, however, now makos thia good resolution impossible of attainment, at least vet .' while.
Campbelltown. -Recently the borough council, recognising the necessity for increased police protection at the port, communicated with Inspector Partly on the matter, and have now received a reply from the inspector stating that tho council's representations have received favourable consideration, and that an extra constable will be stationed in the borough, Hor.sk S— ><•_..— ■ A visiting V.S. signing himself "Talisman," sends this paper tbe following comments upon three stallions shown him a few days ago. He says: 'I was having ii tour around the Western District a few days ago, aud on my way h une 1 called on an old friend, Mr John" Grant, of tbo Junction, near Waikiwi. He showed me his stock, amongst them three stud horses. The first was his last importation from Australia, a big, fine Clydesdale stallion, Albyn Prince, a dark brown, with three wh. ito points and a sot of fino big, round feet. The talk amongst knowing men at
present is ' pasterns.' lie has four <>t them, and tliey are complete in every respect, lie has a splendid big, Hat hone, good quality of hair plenty of it on the right place— ami knees and hocks are complete. A beautiful headand a pair of fine curs, seton properly with a good reach of neck, set into splendid j shoulders. Ho is deep at the heart, short back, a little riso on loins— which means strength — well sprung rib, long ami well ribbed home. His croup is also good, also tail head and tail well set on. A most even temper, rombined with the qualities given, makes him a horse that sliuuld leave his mark for many years in Southland. The next brought out was a three-year-old stallion of very good quality, but mure, enndensed than the big horse. A real gentleman all over, and a rare mover, with g<j<><l temper. The third and list shown was of a different diss, being a standard bred trotter, one of the last of the great Berlin's famous trotting strain. He stands about 1b. 2 on a sco of fine feet and legs, with plenty of good bone below the knee, which is a great wan! in many that are kept for sires. He has a tine, honest head, long neck, beautiful shoulders, good back, well ribbed, long quarters, and gets out ot sight as quick a.s most of them. Taking him all over, a real good horse at three years.
