Mr W. T. Stead vainly urged M. E. Brenner, President of the Swisa Republic, to intervene against Britain's alleged violation of The Hague Peace convention concerning tho usages of war. Mr Stead then asked for a general statement in reference to Swiss sympathies towards tho Boers, but M. Brenner declined to be. drawn.
