[By Telegraph.] Wellington, Jan. 22. The Racing Club’s Summer Meeting opened to-day in fine weather. £16,743 was put through the machine as against £14,964 on the first day last year. Results:— Anniversary Handicap — Mellwood, Phooka, Magnificent. All started but Blazer. Mellwood was a strong favourite and won easily by a length and a half. Time—l min 44 secs. Dividend, £4 Ils. Maiden Plate—Fashion, Cadet, Laurestina. Scratched : Kohunui and Sabreur. Won without effort by three lengths. Time —1 min 43 4-sth secs. Dividend, £2 12s.

Wellington Cup—Renown 1, Cieur de Lion and Paladin a dead heat. AU started but Boreas and Ideal. Tortulla and Materoa led to the turn into the straight, where Renown shot out and won very easily by three lengths. Timo —2 min. 35 2-sth secs. Dividend, £2 4s. Wellesley Stakes—Menschikofl', Indian Queen, Wind Whistle, Also started: Meteor, but was left at the post. Won all the way by six lengths. Time—l 9 secs. Dividend, £1 9s. President’s Handicap— Cameo, Queen’s Guard, Strathnairn. Scratched: Blazer and Laurestina. Strathnairn and Queen’s Guard led into tho straight, but Cameo came with a wet sail and won by a length.
