The Council of the Liberal Association resolved that members of the Council be formed into an electoral committee to take steps to organise ward committees to endeavour to secure the return of capable men among the workers to represent the city at the coming municipal elections. TIMARU, Jan. 22. The Harbour Board has resolved to determine the contract for tho eastern rubble mole ou the ground that the contractors are making insufficient progress. WELLINGTON, Jan. 22. Ryan, an expressman living at Karori, sustained shocking injuries to-night by a train colliding with the vehicle he was driving near Te Aro station. One arm was severed from the body and a leg badly crushed. DUNEDIN, Jan. 22. The Hon. J. G. Waril does not think the Queen’s illness will interfere with the visit of the Imperial troops to N.Z., but he has telegraphed making enquiries. Military etiquette was for them to como in cases of the kind, but under the circumstances all big functions would be avoided. The present intention was for the troops to leave Invercargill at noon on Saturday, stay au hour at Gore, and arrive in Dunedin at 7 p.m., and leave here by special train on the morning of the 4th, staying an hour at Oainaru, Timaru, and (probably) Ashburton. After several very hot days thunder showers fell this evening. In the Otago district last year there were 66 prominent bankruptcies (in Dunedin 14), representing liabilities of £20,424. The estates realised £5007.
