The annual meeting of this club was held yesterday at Wairio under most favourable conditions. The weather was simply perfect and the attendance was in consequence large—probably a record. The two trains from town brought a fair number, and that from Riverton was also well patronised. The surrounding districts contributed a large proportion of the attendance, the majority of these not patronising the trains. The racing as a whole was interesting, and the totalisator investments were good, £1655 being put through the machine as compared with £1567 for the previous year. The officebearers wers most attentive to their duties and kept the events strictly up to time. Mr Thos. Prendergast was a most successful starter, as was Mr Cosgriff a most obliging and energetic secretary. The Riverton Brass Band enlivened the proceedings with selections. Pollowing are the results : — llandicav Hubbliß Racb, cf 25 Bova ; second horse 5 sovs from stakes. This was the order until the back of the course was reached, when Waikaia displaced St. Hiko and closed up on the leader. Light Brigade was the first to show in front, closely followed by Syrian, Snowy bringing up the rear. When half the distance had been covered, Sunshine, who was lying fifth, moved up and came on terms with the favourite. Light Brigade then fell back into third place and a few chains from the judge’s box Sunshine made his effort, and, cleverly ridden by Stanley, was landed a winner by three-quarters of a length; thYee lengths between second and third. From a magnificent start Tupari shot to the front and made the pace a cracker. The Earl ran round the first hurdle and lost some ground. In the plough and ascending the ridge Kingstnan was half a dozen lengths behind Tupari, with Pipi and Ulysses following, a dozen lengths away. At the first double Kingsman baulked, giving Pipi and Ulysses a chance to get even with him. Tupari had by this time got a good lead, but in negotiating the double took off wide of the fence, and in falling broke his neck ; this caused Ulysses to baulk, and Pipi, jumping nicely and well ridden by Craig, came down the hill in fine style. Ulysses, with Archie McGavock up, came on in hot haste, with Pipi several lengths in his rear, but he, too, came to grief at the last fence. The Earl was by this time lost, thus leaving the favourite and Kingsman to finish, the former winning easily by 25 lengths. Time —4 min 52 l-sth secs. Dividend, £2 19s.
