Fire in Dunedin.
[By Telegraph]. Dunedin, Jan. 16. Fire broke out early this morning in the Manse street portion of Wain’s Hotel, two floors of which were gutted. Its origin is directly traceable to the disregard by the cook of the licensee’s orders to extinguish a light in a bedroom. Fire was first noticed shortly after midnight and two employes, who slept in this part of the building, returned to bed thinking it had been extinguished, but it broke out afresh about 5 a. m. The brigade earned much praise by the mauner in which they fought and got under what at one time promised to be a serious conflagration, as the block is one of the most valuable in tlio city. Insurances: Royal Exchange £2250, reinsured with the Lancashire for £475 ; Sun, £400; Guardian, £312 ; North Queensland, £250; Union and Crown £250.
