Heroic Remedy Paid
There was bat one vacant seat in the car. It was in front of a elamberous individual who dreamed with his head resting on the baok of the vacant place. The new comer ■at bolt upright for dozens of blocks, and nntil there was an oppor unity to move al ong. She moved and another woman took her place. This laat woman had none of the ■tuff of martyrs in her oompoeition. She leaned baok and encountered a straw hat. A glance sufficed to show her what was the tronble. She folded her arms composedly, leaned back fall weight with a Blight addition of will and literally smashed the straw. The sleepy man meekly eyed the rnin and settled down in his own place. 'That proves to me %that it doesn't pay to be too careful of other folks' feelings,' said the first woman. There I had been making myself uncomfortable for fifte3n or twenty minutes, all on account of a man whom a determined woman reduced to order in the space of as many seconds.' — New York Sun.
