Up-to-date Book on Dairying
Replying to a query the editor of the N.B Agriculturist says : — There is a decided want of a really good hand-book dealing notonly with dairy science and practice, bub also with the management of dairy cows, and the maladies by which they are affected. Books on dairying there are in plenty, but some of them are nob of much account, while others are iv large measure out of dabe. In most; of the standard works on agriculture dairying is dealt with concisely as a branch of the goner a business of agriculture. In bhat eacyoiope di work, The Complete Grazier (fourteenth edition, revised and in large measure rewritten by Dr. Fream, and published by Crosby, Lockwooi, and Sou, price 31a 6d), the Ecience and practice of dairying is dealt with in a most lucid and fairly exhaustive way, the management of the cows and the treatment of the various ills which bovine flesh is heir to being dealt with in a most satisfactory way. We can most cordially recommend this" book. Fleischmann's Book i of the Dairy (Blackie & Son, price 10a 6d) is a masterly exposition of the science of dairying, but gome parts of it arc bo highly technical that a very high degree of brain power and mathematical skill are required to fully oomprehend its teachings. Of the smaller handbooks, we may mention British Dairying, by Professor Sheldon (Crosby, Loskwood, & Sod, price 2s 6 J). We learn that, Mr William Smith, manager of the Scottish branch of the D*iry Supply Company, will, ia the course of a week or two, publish a handbook on the practice of dairying. From Mr Smith's wide practical knowledge of dairying, we may confidently anticipate that his book will be a publication of great interest and usefulness to all who are engaged in practical dairying. — Ed.
