Market Report.
Southland Timks Office, '.Invercargill, 3rd Nov., 1900. The depression in the produce markets still continues, and business has be=n restiuted during the past two or three weeks to small hand-to-n outh orders from Aus:ralia. There has been a tota absen c of orders lither for shipment to China or South Afiica, although enquiries were made on behalf of shirp 'rs to the former place during the last, week for a parcel tf a- out 20,000 sacks. Business, however, has not resulted, and we understand the rransaoiion is off the market. It is rumoured that Japan is able to supply oats inlarye quantities should Uhina require Bup^lies, so ih»t the chanoe of a large business from th,- colonies Is very remote indeed. lieports from Victoria and N.S.W. regarding their c-.ming harvest have not been so sat sfactory durii g the past fortnight, the weather conditions being anything but. favourable to the growng crops, so that ihere is still a possibility of N.Z. oata being wanted in Australia, but even if this demand does spring up the st.cks held here are so very heavy fo/ this season of th year that very little difference, we tear, will be made in values. It is reported that Pouth Africa is already 6tocked up with supplies sufficient to last until the end of January. Present values for best prime feed oats are Is 2Act to Is 3d, saoks sd, on trucks at up country stations.
