The steamer Kini sailed for Greymouth at 11 a.m, going north about. The weather ar. the port yesterday was very bid, being particularly vicious in the afternoon, a hard S.W. gale blew, accompanied by very heavy -rain. Work at the wharves was again an impossibility. The U.B.S. Oo's steamer Kotuku, which is on her first voyage to this port, left Sydney at 2 30 p.m on _4th Ootober, and had Puysegur Point abeam at 6.45 _»m on Monday, arriving at 6.10 a.ra y ester Jay. Kxperienced light B. S.W winds fine clear weatber and smooth seas tor a day, then fresh S.K winds, moderate tea and overcast wea'.her till the 27th, when tresh H.W and var'able winds and high seas, with rain ■quails, prevailed to arrival. The Kotuku was bought by the company for their Sydney and west coast of Tasmania trade. She is a steel clinker-built ship with steel decks, is 225 ft in length and 34fc 3in beam. She is sohooaer-rigged, and was built by Messrs Ruesell and Co., of Greenock, during the preseßt year. Triple expansion engines are provided, with inverted direct action, made by Messrs Ros9 and Dunoan, of Glasgow. They are 700 h.p. and drive the steamer at a speed of 9. knots. The Kotuku's gross tonnage is 1063 tons; net, 662 tons. There are three holds -two forwird and one aft — and Urge winches are fitted for working cargo. The aaloon is neatly fitted up, a fireplace ia provided, and a handsome mirror oonducee to nattineas of appearance. Opening out of the saloon is the mess room, with officers' cibins ranged round, the quarters being roomy, especially the purser's offloe. On the bridge deck is tbe captain's room. The Kotuku has come from Sydney with a oargo of bonedust, timber, and salt, acd afte r discharging proceeds to headquarters. The arrival of the new tug Theresa Ward may be looked for early next week. The steamer Monowai was expected to arrive at the Blnff from Dnnedin last night, and sbe will sail for Melbonrne this morning.
