LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Wellington, Thursday, Aug. 9. The Millers' Horns of Labour Bill passed its final stages, and the Noxious Weeds Bill was fuither considered in committee and the schedules pissed without further amendment than the insertion of the common names of the noxious weeds after the bo tantoal cames. There was considerable discussion over the IMPRISONMENT FOR DEBT 15ILL. The Hon. E. C. J. Stevens thought the whole question of imprisonment for debt would come to an end if the fee of £6 charged for filing a declaration of binkruptjy were reduced to a merely nominal amount. — The Hoo. T. Kelly failed to see that the bill gave relief at all.— Captain Biillie, while approving of the clause dealing with the assignment of debts, did not think the bill as a whole was a good one for the Council to pass, and the Hoo. G. McLean held that a man who could pay and would nob ought not to escape punishment. The debate waj unfinished when the Council rose.
