Market Report.
Southland Time* Officx, loveroargill, 3rd Aug., 1900. The improvement in the oat market has proved to be only temporary, as praotioally do business haa been done during the past week. It seems that the recent strong demand arose through speculation entirely, and we hear that some 3000 tons of oats have been shipped from Melbourne to China on speculation. The demand has now oeased tot the time being, and at present there are no orders either for South Africa or China in the market The price ruling during the past fortnight is too high for either Sydney or Melbourne ; the price of maize in N.S.W, and of Algerian oats in Victoria, being bo muon lower than recent quotations for N.Z oata, ia forcing buyers to stick to their local markets. Some purchases of N.Z oats have been made at the advanced prices for forward delivery in September and October, which leads ua to hope tha^buyerß on the other side have some idea that the market later on will improve Of course should any great demand ari«e for shipments to the East, prices may go up steadily, but until this does happen we do Dot think pres»nt prices will hold. There is no change to report in connection with other produce,
