Lumsden.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT ) j We are enjoying a spell of magnificent winter weater, and full advantage is taken of it to get the ploughing done. The roads in Lumsden are as dry almost as in the middle of summer. Ones more we have a resident medicil man, Dr Todd, jlate of Winton, having taken up practice In this district. Already there have been cases in which a doctor was urgently required, consequently every one caa see the advantage of having a doctor in oar midst, as against having to send from 20 to 30 miles for one. Dr Todd also visits outside places at regular intervals. I hope tbo jractice will be sufficient to induce him tojMrmanently remain. The parishioners in this part of the Winton-cum-Lumsden parish met on Wednesday last for the purpose of hiving the annua! .t.tement of Accounts submitted, and to elect a committee. The Rev. J. L. A. Kayll presided and expressed his entire satisfaction at the success his work had met w.th in this part of the parish. The finances were also io a healthy condition, there being a credit balances of £3 lis 41 after meeting all liabilities. The quarterly amounts sent t-> the stipend funds had been exactly double the amount guaranteed, with «?#fy indication that tt ey will so continue. Mr Reynolds, superintendent of the Sunday School, reported that he was financially in a satisfactory condition with his account". Votes of thanks were pissed to the organist snd other .^office-bearers, and the following j gentlemen were elected the committee for I th» oarrent term :— Messrs W, Reynolds, G J £. Johnson, 8. Stanford, James Martin, H.
J. Riddell, S. Sexton, and James Ooulding. Mr Martin was re-appointed ohuroh officer and secretary and Mr G. F. Johnson treasurer. The matter of painting the ohurch was considered and steps arranged to have the work done. Mr H. J. Riddell, who lately sold out his farm to Mrs E. Atkinson, has bought the general storeke eping business of Mr H. T. Batson, who is leaving for the Old Country in tbe course of a week or too. All who know Mr Riddell hope he may meet with sucoess. There is a big future before Lumsden if tbe land surrounding it gets cub up for close settlement. S''>-.'e transfers ore reported aa being likely to take place shortly in thelocomotivo dep.rlmcDr of the railways, no le3B than three of the st atf h< re being under orders for removal. If all I hear be true these changes shou'd have'taken p'aoe loag ago if the classification list, published had been worth anything, but from h 1 accounts it was enthely disregards!. However, "all things come to those who wait" and it seems tho men are dow t ) be arranged in their proper places acoording lo leDgth of 9ervice and othor qua!i6oatio_p. It may or may not be the Hou. J. '.-;. Ward's doing but any way it was timp the men got justly arranged. 2nd Aug.
