HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Wellington, Wednesday, Aug. 1. After the telegraph office closed at 2 a.m. to day the GOVERNMENT VALUATION OF LAND ACT waa further considered in committee. The definition of "land" in olnuse 2 was amended by the concluding words : " and all metal", minerals and precious atones contained therein " being excised and " but shall not include native bush or trees and an area not exceeding twenty-five acre?, planted for shelter or ornamental purposes" added. At 3.50 a.m., after the clause had psused, Mr J. Allen moved that progress be reported. This was negatived by 31 to 11. After this reverse, there was a semi-tragic incident. AH the Opposition members present, with the member for Brnce at their head, trooping out of the Chamber. After they had retired the front Opposition seats were occupied by Messrs McNab and Arnold. The remaining olauses were passed, with minor amendments, the bill was reporttd and the House rose at 4. 15.
