The Binff Quarantine Station.
' l ' ■ The ereotion of this poet of isolation is • being rapidly proceeded with, and co far the oontraotors have been favoured with excellent weather. Visitors to the point, where the station ia to be situated, will be able to land . upon a jetty which runs out a considerable distance. Messrs Barker and Jones are the contractors for this work and will soon complete the structure. The contractor for the buildings is Mr J. C. Howie and his work•men are vigorously pushing on with the ' work. The material for the jetty and the bfuldings has all been conveyed aoross tbe harbour in Messrs Parson Bros.' punt. The Btation will bave a northern aspeot, and an excellent view of the Straits and the har--1 bour is obtained. The station will consist of a main building with a ward on either side. -The central portion will contain a bedroom ,11 x 16 feet for a medical officer, also a / "study 14 x 17 feet ; matron's room, 13 . x 10 feet; nurses' dining room, 14 x 17 feet; nurses' bedroom, 13 feet 6 inches xlB feet ; dispensary, 12 x 7 feet 6 inches and a kitchen, 13 x 15 feeb with scullery and pantry. A corridor 6 feet wide runs through the centre of the building. Eaoh of the wards is 25 x 40 feet aad has acoommodation for six beds ; off each ward is a bathroom. The whole of the buildings will be effeotnally heated. Outhouses and a dissecting room will be situated under one roof a short distance from the main building, it is intended to furnish one of the wards without delay in order tbat any emergency whioh may arise may be promptly dealt .with. The architect is Mr William Sharp, Mr J. P. Roberts being inspector. A fumigating room is to be ereoted later close to the jetty. The erection of tbis station & will bring the Bluff into line witb the other chief ports so far aa qu wan tine regulations • §re concerned.
