Admiral Pearson has received instructions that three vessels of the Australian squadron are to proceed to China and has arranged for the Mohawk and Lizard, now here, to leave to-night. The Wallaroo, now three days out from Sydney, will prooeed immediately oa arrival here. t JCLY 1. The police have arrested Joseph Ehrman, clothing manufacturer, and charged him with raceiving ten fifty pound bank notes, the property of the bankrupt estate of Chas. Grant Daley, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. When Daley was examined in bankruptcy and tried in the Supreme Court some of the money was reported missing, and the numbers of some fifty pound notes recently presented being the tame as those' reported missing led to Ehrman's arrest. WELLINGTON, June 30. The poll for the Waihemo election is fixed for 18th July. Mr S. Percy Smith, who to-day completed the term which entitles bim to retire from the position of Surveyor-General and Secretary for Crown Lands, after a period of service extending over 45 years, was the recipient of a present from the officers of the Lands Department. It is understood that Mr Smith will direct the work of his department until the end of the session.
