New Zealand (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 25. Jane Robinson, aged 35, took a quantity of carbolic acid and died from its effects. She had had several operations performed and there was’no hope of her recovery. She left the following note :—“I believe I have incurable blood-poisoning. Forgive me dear brother and friends.” WELLINGTON, April 25. A return prepared by Mr_ Harrison, secretary of the District Law Society, shows that 577 solicitors are practising iu the colony, being one to every 1357 of tho population. The other colonies’ proportions are —New South Wales Ito 1319, Queensland 1 to 1659, South Australia 1 to 1145, Victoria 1 to 1154, West Australia 1 to 1328. WANGANUI, April 25. Three men well known to (the police, who were arrested for breaking into Patea railway station a little over a wtek ago, have been sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for vagrancy. They were seen at the station on the evening of the burglary and next day were known to have hid in haystacks two miles from Patea. The evidence, however, was not strong enough, and the police withdrew the charge of burglary. DUNEDIN, April 25. At the Union Street School meeting a motion was unanimously adopted calling on the Minister of Education to pass, without delay, a bill to reform the method of electing Committees and Boards. It is reported thab a company with a large capital is to be floated in London for the purpose of dredging Lake Waihola.
