Invercargill Wool Sales.

Henderson and Batger report having held their second wool sale of the season on Wednesday, when they submitted a catalogue of 325 bales, of which they sold under the hammer all but 30. The buyers at last sale were, with one exception, all present, and with the competition of two more buyers, bidding for all lots offered was spirited and keen, though with a few exceptions the wool generally was not in such good condition as that offered last month, late shorn clips being naturally much heavier in grease. The feature of the sale was the active demand for fine halfbred and merino. Best halfbred brought up to B.‘-d per lb, and merino ranged as high. We sold a lot of merino, bred by Mr George Johnston, of Kaihiku, at B£d, while Mr John Johnston’s brought Bd. For good, bright crossbred we got 7£d and 7|d, but for good, sound, bright wool, such as Mr John Taylor’s Roslyn clip, 8d was obtained. Compared with last sale prices generally were Jd to per lb better, and in exceptional cases an advance of f d per lb was noticeable, but dingy and inferior sorts showed no improvement on last sale price. Pieces, eto., were eagerly sought after, and found buyers at prices a trifle over January sale. The following is a list of our sales :—

The N.M. and A. Co. report that the second wool sale was held on Wednesday in Hanan’s Hall, before the usual number of buyers. About 4800 bales were offered, our share amounting to 1300 bales. Competition was very keen and, we think, considering the heavier condition of the wool, crossbred sold at a slight advance on last sale ; merino showed most improvement, being fully Jd to gd better, while halfbred was up Jd to Ad. A good number of bales were passed but sold privately. Tothill, Watson and Co. report having offered a catalogue of 531 bales at the second wool Bale, held in Hanan’s on Wednesday, 2nd inst., and with the exception of flva bales everything was sold under the hammer. Compared with last eale good, bright, crossbred wools ruled about the same, while medium and faulty lots showed a decided advance of at least |d and even up to Id per lb. Merino and halfbreds sold exceedingly well, the former going as high as Bd, while several lots brought and 7Jd. Halfbreds reached B|d. A splendid lot of bright, clean wool sold on account of Mrs McCauley, Ballyness, Mossburn, topped the market at BJd for crossbreds.
