Auctioneers’ Reports.
J A Mitchell and Co report haring held their fortnightly sale at the Invercargill yards on Tuesday. The entry was a small one in all classes, the sale almost without animation, and only at low prices did buyers care to operate, unless for a few pens of best cattle which realised fair value. The entries were 57 lat and 175 store cattle and 600 fat sheep—no stores—and following are the prices realised :— Fat Cattle—Best bullocks from L 7 7s_6l to L 7 ; medium, L 6 5s to L 6 7s 6d ; cows. L 4 to L 5 10s. ’ Store Cattle—Small yearlings, 14s to 20s ; 2-year-olds, 80s to 40s ; grown steers did not reach vendors’ prices in many instances and notmuch business done; a few dairy cows reached L 4 to L 5 2s 6d; others, L2 Sheep—Maiden ewes and wethers from 6s 6d for small to Safer best, at which price the entry was cleared. We held no horse'sale during the week on account of the holidays, but placed several privately, and have a big entry for Saturday’s sale.
Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co report having held their fortnightly sale of stock at the Invercargill yards on Tuesday. The entry was small, as was the attendance- The sale dragged throughout, most of the butchers holding part supplies. Fat Cattle—s 7 penned. Best bullocks brought • L 6 10s to L 7 7s 6d ; lighter, L 5 5s to L 8 ; prime cows, L 4 10s to L 5 7s 6d. Store Cattle—l7s penned. There was little demand. Three-year-old steers brought from L 3 to L 3 7s 6d ; two and three year old do, L2 os to L2 15s; yearlings, 20s to 255; calves, 5s to 10s; young speyed cows, L2 to L 3. Fat Sheep—6oo penned. Prime wethers brought up to 8s 3d; lighter, 6s to 7 s 6d; prime ewes, 5s (id to 7s. No stores forward.
