The Anglican Church in Otago.
(By Telegraph.) Dunedin, Deo. 28. The Anglican Diocesan Synod was opened to-day. Bishop Nevill, in his address, after referring to the work of the Lambeth conference, said that in his work on behalf of the diocese he had obtained a vote of L5OO for a See House . from the Society for the Propogation of the Gospel, the Society also setting aside LlOOO from the Marrot bequest towards a further endowment of the Wardenship of the Selwyn College. From the Colonial Bishopric Council he had obtained a grant of L5OO for the See House and from the Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge an equal sum, making Ll5OO in all. From the last named Society he had also obtained grants towards the erection of four churches. The Bishop expressed satisfaction at the work of his commissiary during his absence and in referring to the death of the Rev. T. L. Stanley, said he regretted to find there were clergy whose stipends from all parts of their districts amounted to about what a single individual might pay for a servant. He earnestly beseeched churchmen to see that this injury to the cause and disgrace to the Communion was speedily remedied.
