The selectors of the Australian team have notified Lyons that his services will not be required in the second test match.

Received 28 th, 11 p.m. ■ To-day was very hot and the cricketers were much affected. On returning to the pavilion at the close of the Victorian innings Kelly fell in a fit, suffering from heat apoplexy. His condition to-rrght is low. Gregory also was taken so ill that his playing in the test match is interdicted by his doctor, and it is unlikely that Kelly will be able to play. New South Wales lost six wickets for 241 —Pye 80, McKenzie 88, Gregory 22, were the principal scorers. In the Victorian first innings McKibbin took 4 wickets for 109, Noble 1 for 59, Ferris 1 for 47, Pye 1 for 42, Donnan 1 for 16. (By Telegraph.) Auckland, Dec. 28. The Canterbury v. Auckland match was resumed to-day. The visitors' second innings closed for 255—Wigley 73, A. E. Ridley 42, C. R. Clarke 60 (not out), Fowke 13, and H. Ridley 11. Auckland required 344 to win. The first wicket fell for 3, but G. Mills and W. Sternson made a fine stand, and at call of time the score stood 4 wickets for 185. The match will be resumed tomorrow.
