Auctioneers’ Reports. Tothill, Watson and Co report having held their fortnightly sale at the Invercargill saleyards on Tuesday. The entries in all classes were large and prices all round showed an improvement on last sales, more especially so for forward turnip sheep, which were greatly in demand, a line of 4-tooth wethers reachingIls 6d, and others selling readily at from 10s upwards. Fat Cattle—lol head yarded, including some very nice quality beef. Best bullocks reached L 7 15s ; good, L6loa to L 7 2s 6d ; medium, L 5 15s to L 6 ss; light, L 5 to L 5 IDs; best heavy cows, L 7 12s 6d; others, L 3 5s to L 3 17s 6d. Fat Sheep—ll6l penned. Best wethers, Ils 2d to Ils 6d ; good, 10s to 10s lOd; best ewes, 8s to 9s; others, 4s 2d to 7s 2d ; best ewes and wethers, mixed, Ils Id; good, 10s to 10s 6d ; light, 9s. Store Sheep—l 292 penned. Breeding ewes brought from 9s 8d to 10s 2d for best; others, 3s 9d to Ss ; lambs, from 3s 3d for culls up to Ss 9d for medium sorts; store wethers, 8s 9d to Us 6d. Store Cattle-225 head yarded. The demand was dull and most lots were turned out, calves selling at 15s; yearlings, 30s; 2-year-olds from L 3 to L3los. The N.Z. Loan and M.A. Co. report that the fortnightly sale took place on Tuesday, when current prices for both stores and fat'stock were well maintained, especially for sheep, although the attendance of buyers was somewhat meagre. Forward wethers were in good demand, as also were young breeding ewes ; lambs likewise sold freely. Following is an indication of the prices ruling Fat Cattle—Best bullocks, L6l7s 6d to L 7 158; 2nd quality, L 5 to LG ss; cows, L 3 5s to L 4. Fat Sheep—Wethers, 9s Ud to Us 6d; ewes, 7s to 9s 6d. Store Sheep—Wethers (2 and 4-tooth), 8s to 10s 3d ; ewes (young), 7s 6d to 10s 3d: full-mouthed ewes, 3s lOd to 8s ; lambs, 0s to 8s 6d. J. A. Mitchell and Co. report having held their fortnightly sale of stock at the Invercargill yards on Tuesday. All classes of stock were well represented and the demand for sheep was brisk. Fat cattle, however, were dull of sale except for real prime quality ; cow beef not being asked for, except at a very low price. Store cattle were inclined to move a little, but only at low prices. We quote as follows: — Fat Cattle-Bullocks, L 7 15s ;to LG 10s for best; medium weights and quality, LG to L 5 ss; cows, extra heavy, L 7 12s 6d ; medium, L 5 5s to L 3; 2 and 3-year-olds, L 3 4s to L 3 10s; yearlings, 30s to 20s; calves, 15s to 9s. Sheep—Best wethers, Ils 6d to 10s Gd; medium sorts, 10s to 9s; ewes and wethers, 10s Gd to 9s; fat ewes, best, 9s to 8s ; medium, 7s Gd to 5s Gd; lambs, best, 8s 9d to 8s; medium, 7s Gd to 5s Gd; scrags, 4s Gd to 2s Gd; breeding ewes, best, 10s 2d to 3s (id; medium, 8s to Os 6d; old culls at boiling down prices. Horse Market—We held our weekly sale in the Prince of Wales yard on Saturday, when there was a large entry, but for the most part of horses of indifferent quality. First-elass sorts sell readily at good prices. Wc quote best young active draughts, L 25 10s to L2O; medium, LlB to Ll 5 ; hacks (demand small), best, Ll2 to L 10; light, L 8 to L 5; old crocks, L 3 to 20s. The previous Saturday we sold the trotting stallion Stirling Lad to Mr Duncan McGregor for L5O and the trotting horse Rasp to Mr W. Baird for L2B. Wright, Stephenson and Co. report having held their fortnightly sale of stock in the Invercargill yards on Tuesday, when there was a considerable entry and also a large attendance of buyers. Fat Cattle—lol penned. These have gone back in price somewhat. Prime heavy bullocks brought L 6 to L 7 2s Gd ; lighter, L 4 10s to Lslos ; fat Icows, L 3 to L 5 2s Gd. Fat Sheep—ll6l penned. These showed a slight advance : prime wethers, Ils to 12s ; lighter, 9s to 9s 9d ; fat ewes, 9s to 0s 8d for extra heavy; lighter, Gs to 8s 6d ; prime heavy freezing lambs, 8s Gd to 9s 3d. Store Sheep—4292 penned, chiefly breeding ewes ; a considerable number old and inferior.. Young soundmouth ewes brought up to 10s ; inferior, 3s Gd to 6s ; store lambs, to 7s 9d; maiden ewes and wethers, to 10s Gd. Store Cattle—22s penned. A rather draggy sale and at late rates. We offered stock on account of Mrs M Gerrard, Messrs F Fosbender, D O’Kane, R Russell, F Farr, P King, H Vivian, Jas Cox, J Kirkpatrick, A Gerrard, junr., AT Lawrence, W Heywood, THodgkinson, A Craig, F A Price, W Scoular and Co, Quinn and Co.
