Bill of Lading Liability

[By Tklegkaph.l Wellington, Feb. 4. A case of some interest to the mercantile community was decided by the S.M. to-day. Ballinger Bros, sued the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company for L 25, being damage to a quantity of galvanised iron which had got wet in transit and covered with precipitate of zinc. The company contended that there was nothing to show that the damage was earned onshipboard, but his Worship held that the bill of lading was sufficient evidence to show that the goods were in proper order when received by the defendants, and gave judgment for Ll 6 13s 4d. An appeal, however, will probably be lodged.
