The Boot Trade Dispute

(By Telegraph.) Christoiiurch, July 20 The adjourned sitting of the Board of Conciliation for Canterbury was held to-day. The chairman mentioned the result of the question submitted to the Arbitration Court, which had decided that it had no jurisdiction to consider a single question, and it was now for the Board to go into the whole matter. Further evidence on clauses 1 and 2, referred back from the Court, was taken, which was to the effect that the rules should apply to operatives employed in the clicking, benching, and furnishing departments, and in connection with machinery. Three witnesses called by the Union and two by the Association were examined in reference to the question of adding the machinery department to the skilled labour departments in factories. The Board then adjourned till tomorrow when evidence will be led by the Union in reference to all the other points in dispute.
