Auctioneers' Reports.
The N.Z. T<<wi and Mercantile Agency Co. report as follows : — We held our May sale at Riversdale on the 14th inst., when we disposed of 1900 sheep, the bulk of the entries comprising lines of station sheep, principally crossbred wethers in forward condition. We disposed of 6 and 8-tooth wethers on account of Mr D. Gillanders at 10s ; merino wethers, almost fat, at 6s ; on account of Mr Morrah: 4-tooth crossbred wethers at f)s Id, and f.m. breeding ewes at 7s ; on account of other vendors: '2-tooth wethers and maiden ewes at 9s, others at S3 Sd, ard a nice line of lambs at 7s 6d. The sale was a satisfactory one, all lines entered having found purchasers at rates fully equal to ruling prices in other centres, competition for turniping sheep being particularly keen.
Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. report having held their first sale of stock in the Invercargill yards on Tuesday, when a considerable quantity of stock was penned. The market for other than beat sorts was dull ; partly owing no doubt to the shortage in the turnip crop as a whole. Fat Cattle— 72 yarded. For prime beef the demand was "ood at from L 8 10) to LlO 5s for heavy bullocks ; medium from L 6 5a to L 7 15s ; prime cows from L 5 Us t«,L7. Store Cattle— 3so head yarded. Three-year-old steers brought from L 3 15s to L.S ; 2-year-old do from L-2 to L 3 5s ; yearlings from 30s to L 2 Ss ; calves from 15s to -2-29 Cd ; dry cows from 1,2 to L 3 15s ; springers from M 10s to L 5. Fat Sheep— (l3B penned. Prime jheavy wethers, I4s M to 14s 7d ; lighter from lls Cd to 12s M ; wethers and maiden ewes from lls (id to 12s (id ; prime heavy ewes from its to 10s ; medium from 7s Cd to Ss 9d.
Store Sheep— 37B9 penned, a large propoition beiiij; inferior. For these the sale was drag-sjy. Best wetbc.-s, Us to 10s 3d ; medium, 7s to 8s; inferior from 5s 6.1; uell-woolled lambs, 7 s 6d to Ss 3d ; lighter, fs to Gs; ewes, from 3s; sound breeding ewes, 7s to Ss 9d.J Private Sales— During Ihe week we sold 140 4 and 6-tooth merino ewes ; also 2> acres of turnips at s^tisfactory figures.,
The N.M. and A. Co report having held a clearing sale at Mr Carmiohael's farm, Otautau, on Wednesday. The weather waa fine, and there was a large attendance of farmers from all parts of Southland. Bidding was brisk, nearly every lot being well competed for, and results proved most satisfactory. Prices ranged as follows :— Draught horses realised from Ll7 Ids to L 27 10s ; young hacks and light harness horses from L 7 to L 1 0; a very nice forward lot of ewes and wethers brought 10s iod; medium, 2-tooths, 9s 3d ■ lambs, 7s 7d to 8s 6d. Some purebred stud Lincoln ewes sold for Vis 2d, and crossbred ewes, nearly fat, at 8s 4d ; do, in lamb, fis lOd. Milch cows brought L 6 lUs to L 7 15s ; cows about a month oft calving, L. r > to L 0 10s ; 2 year-old heifers and steers, up to L-2, and yearlings, 3. r >s.
Messrs J. A. Mitchell and Co report having sold about BtK) acna of Morton Mains during the week to Mr Walter Clark, of Ryal Bush, anil having several other sales of the estate pending.
