WELLINGTON, April 13. The Stipendary Magistrate at Chatham Islands has reported to the Marine Department that during the past month wreckage haa been cast ashore at the islands. It consists of planking, a pfece of decking, a boat's tank, a large quantity of candles, a case of gin, bottles, and a rum cask. Nothing haa been found that would serve to identify tbe vessel the wreckage came from. The Hinemoa will visit the southern islands shortly to search for castaways and inspect the food depots. A movement is on foot to establish a branch here of the New Zealand Native Association.
The Alameda with the English mails of 21st March left Frisco on due date and the Mariposa with the colonial mails to 21st March arrived at Frisco on her due date.
A Gazette Extraordinary issued to-day further prorogues Parliament till May 16th. The post office at Kirwee was broken into on Saturday night and LlB in cash and postage stamps stolen. The robbery waa effected by teat ing the aide of » safe open-. with tools obtained from a local blacksmith's shop. It is believed that this is the work of a gang who recently robbed aeveral premises in Christchurch. Postmasters and stamp vendors throughout the colony have been warned not to purchase stamps from ■trangers. The .New South Wales Rowing Association hai cabled the New Zea and Association stating "ex fishermen are not eligible to compete at intercolonial contests." Thia means the final disqualification of the Queen's Drive crew by reason of the fact that Prichard and Wright are ex-fishermen. The selection committee have not yet arrived at a decision in regard to the selection of a fresh crew.

At the examination for scholarships in connection with the Presbyterian Church Theological Hall the Presbytery's scholarship of L25 per annum for three years wis awarded to A. Thompson (Invercargill), and the Lang scholarship of L2O per annum to J. Chisholm (Milton). The Acclimatisation Society has resolved, in connection with the shipment of salmon ova, that it be represented to the Government that the chances of success of the exfieriment wonld be enormously increased by iberating as many as possible in one suitable river, and that the Waiau (river, its tributaries and lakes was admitted on all hands to be the. most suitable. Mr Deans, the manager /endorsed this opinion. NAPIER, April 13.
A six-roomed dwelling in Chancer road, occupied and owned by Mrs Mahon, was destroyed by fire last night. The family were away from home. The insurance is L4OO on the building and LIOO on the furniture in the South British, andL4oo on the furniture in tbe New Zealand.
Michael Hayden, ageAaboufc 60, was found drowned in a lagoon- af the Spit on Sunday morningt Deceased was a Harbour Board employe.
