Dunedin Markets.

(By Tbiißsrath.)

Dukkdis, April 1.

Pat Cattle — 154 head yarded, principally well finished young bullocks and heifers of medium weights. Prime quality had tair sale at prices rather below those ruling last week, while medium and inferior realised only low prices. Best bullocks sold at L? 108 to LlO sa ; medium, L6 5s to L7 ; light, L4 10a to Uo 15s ; cows and heifers, L3 15s to L7 2a (Jd. Fat Sheep— 2sos penned. The larger portion consisted of ewes of all qualities, but the wethers penned were all prime to good. A brisk demand was experienced, but prices were very irregular and on the whole ruled much the same as last week. Best crossbred wethers sold at lls to 12s Gd ; medium, 9s to 10a 6d ; best crossbred ewes, 10s 6d to 12s 3d ; ordinary ,7s to 9s ; merinos, 5s to 6s 6d. Pigs— lo3 penned. Suckers and slips were difficult to quit, but other sorts had a fair sale at prices on a par with those ruling last week. Wheat— At the reduced value reported last week a considerable business has been done in Tuscan and red wheats, while velvet continues to meet with most attention from millers and is readily placed at quotations, viz., prime milling (velvet), 3s 7d to 3s 8d ; prime milling (Tuscan, etc.), 3s 4d to 3s 6d ; fowl feed, 3s to 3s 3d— sacks in.

Oats— Th» tone of the market is somewhat weaker. Shippers evince little desire to make extensive purchases at late values and as the offerings become more numerous the tendency of prices to ease slightly becomes more apparent. A few lines specially suitable for seed have been placed at Is Sd to Is 9d ; prime milling, 19 7id to Is 8d ; good to best feed, Is tiid to U 7Jd ; medium feed, Is 5d to Is 6d— sacks extra.

Barley — A \-ery large proportion of the crop to hand is only of medium quality and for this class the demand is relatively lower than usual. All lines of prime malting quality, however, are in strong request at slightly improved values, viz., 3s 3d to 3s 6d— sacks extra ; medium to good, 2s 8d to 39 ; feed and milling, 28 to 2s 7d.
