Death Under Suspicious Circumstances .
On Saturday afternoon an inquest was opened at the hospital on the body of Elizabeth Stenton, of UtaiUi, near Riverton, who died in Invercargill on Thursday. Mr J. W. Poynton, coroDer, presided, and the jury consisted of Messrs Henry Wilson, J.P. (foreman), G. Couling, J. Dobie, H. Blodorn, \V. Strang, and \V. Lock. The (Joroner.said this was a case in which a young woman had died under circumstances which the police considered sußpic'oub, therefore an inquiry was necessary. They would be. unable to finish it that day so the jury could view the body and adjourn t'> a day which would be convenient to all parties. —^ergt. Macdonell said he snouli require -a week to collect the necessary evtdenc* . — The Coroner aaid he was engaged every day (hiring ihe week, but he would meet them in the even iug or, if they chose, on the Sunday, as tha Act provided for that course, and it was often inconvenient for business men to attend on other day3. — Sergeant Macdonell said that several witnetssa would be called who resided in the country and there wasiio provision for payment of their expenses, — Afrer some conversation it wag agreed to adjourn till Mouday, tho 30th inst., at 7.40 p.m.; the inquiry to be held at the Courthouse.
