A Painful Suicide

(By Telegraph.) Oamaru, Nov. 15. Mr E. J. Dowling, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, shot himself through the head this morning. He had been suffering from an internal complaint for some time. Mr Dowling was a highly respected citizen, and had been many years in th®- bank’s service. He had suffered lately from insomnia consequent upon illhealth and unnecessary wony, as his position as manager of the amalgamated banks was assured. He did not sleep last night and complained this morning, prior to the act, that he was not feeling well. It is supposed that the act was committed under a momentary impulse of physical agony, as he had sent for a doctor.
