The lumpers engaged on the intercolonial steamers have struck against the altered rate of wages paid. For two hours’ work on Saturday they have hitherto received 3s, which is as much as for 2! hours on any other day, aud the owners seek to make Saturday a quarter day of 2! hours. The strike only applies to Saturday work and is not likely to affect other week days, but meanwhile the refusal to work the steamers on Saturday is causing serious delay.
