Meeting of Creditors.
A meeting of creditors in the estate of Charles Cattenach, of Gore, hotelkeeper, was held yesterday in the Deputy Assignee’s office.—Mr Macalister appeared for the bankrupt and Mr Brodrick for Messrs Whittingham Bros., and Instone, unsecured creditors. The debtor’s statement showed that he owed L2OO to a secured creditor (R. T, Coomer, of Gore), the security being a bill of sale over stock and furniture, valued at L 650. Against this surplus of L 450, together with book debts estimated to produce L2OO, or L 650 in all, were unsecured liabilities amounting to L 624 10s 6d, leaving an apparent surplus of L 25 9s 6d. The following are the principal unsecured creditors Mitchell and Co., (Invercargill), L9O; Whittingham Bros., and Instone, L4B; Speight and Co., L4B 6s; M. Joel, L 37 9s Id; A. E. Kemp (Gore), L 37 14s fid ; A. Neilson (Gore), L3O 6s ; James Knight (Gore), L3O; H. Hawson, L 29 17s ;R. Whittingham (Gore), L 22 10s fid ; trustees of J. B. Dick, L2115s ; Simpson and Hart (Lawrence), Ll 9 ; Roope and Co., LlB 12s ; M. Kingston (Dunedin), LI4 9s; Moffett and Co., Ll 4 16s ; Massey and Co., Lio ; W. Strachan (Dunedin), Ll2; W. Gruar and Co. (Gore), LU ; and P. and W. McKinnon LIO. The debtor was examined at considerable length as to his transactions since he sold his farm at Glenkennich in June last and entered into the business of hotelkeeping in Gore. It was eventually resolved that the lessor of the hotel be approached by the Assignee, and in the event of suitable arrangements being made, that tenders be called for the purchase of the whole estate, excepting the book debts, in one lot.
