The ketch Gratitude returned on Sunday afternoon after a two months’ scaling cruise in the Auckland Islands. Captain Barber reports that he left the Bluff on the ‘2oth Sept., but was compelled to put bock to Stewart Island twice on account of heavy south-west gales. He finally left Port Adventure on 4th, and experienced light easterly winds till arrival at the islands on 10th October. There very bad weather was experienced during the whole time of the vessel’s stay, there being only three fine days. Departure was taken for Bluff on Ist Nov., with a northerly wind till the morning of the 4th when a strong S.W. wind came up, bringing the vessel into port as above. The “ take” includes 310 fur skins, 190 hair skins, and 24 casks blubber. The steamer Talune arrived at 2.30 p.m yesterday. She left Melbourne at 5 p.m on the 31st ult; arrived nt Hobart at 6 a.m on the 2nd inst; sailed thence at noon, and passed the Solanders at 9.30 a.m yesterday. Fine weather and light variable winds were experienced throughout the trip. The Talune sailed for Dunedin at 6 p.m.
