The Catholic Christian Brothers object to the adoption of compulsory attendance as regs.rds their schools in Ireland on the ground of their not being State-endowed. The liquidators of the Freehold Investment and Banking Company have applied to the court for permission to accept a compromise in the action brought against the Hon. James Balfour, an ex-director, to recover the amounts of dividends and bonuses alleged to have been wrongfully paid. Mr Balfour, while denying his liability, offered • to pay L5OOO in settlement of all claims. A member of the Committee of Advice opposed the application.
