In Bankruptcy
At a sitting of the District Court yesterday, before his Honour Judge Rawson, an examination of Annie Fox, late boardinghouse keeper, of Preservation Inlet, was held. Mr Brodrick appeared for the Deputy-Assignee and Mr Macalister for debtor, who had been arrested on warrant when about to leave for the Inlet.—Mr Macalister 'said that, in his opinion, the arresf was illegal, but his client would submit to examination.— The debtor being sworn, said that when she arrived from Tasmania she had over LlOO in her possession. She lent L5O to Mr Ross and gave L2O to her husband. She carried on business for some time, and at the time of filing she had LlO, which had since been spent on necessaries. She did not furnish the Assignee with a statement, because she had no affairs or books, L2O she had 'in the Savings Bank she drew out as she required it. Her daughter, who .was about, 14 years of age, had about L2OO given her fry her uncle. Witness did not know exactly what it amounted to nor where it was deposited. The girl was in business with her 'father when 13 years of age. She did not know anything about her daughter’s money. Debtor did not know whether her husband knew that his daughter had the money, nor what relation Mr Donovan, who had given the girl the L2OO, was to: Mr Fox. Debtor had no money, and her eight children were barefooted. Bankrupt did not owe anyone sixpence as she had no interest in the store carried on by her husband. Her son, who was 11 years old, had Lil in the Savings Bank which was given him by debtor before she was summoned by Mr Hawsbn. It was given in return for work done. The examination then closed.
