Wednesday, 23kd November Ordinary and special meetings were attended by Councillors I. W. Raymond (chairman), McCallum, Hast, Baldey, Ward, Gerrard, Fleming and Green. L. Matbeaon, harbourmaster at Fortrose, was granted ten days' leave of absence. The New Zealand Pina Co applied for permission to lay a tramway across the road through section 50, block 21, New River Hundred.— Engineer to report. Lawrence Brothers asked that some formation and gravelling should be done between Makarewa Bush and the bridge across the river. — Held over for information re Government vote. After hearing D. Forde and other settlers, the Engineer was authorised to expend L 25 in addition to the available deferred payment thirds for forming and gravelling the worst portions of Pomona road, Makarewa. In answer to a request from R. Sutherland for a grant to placo a bridge over Tussook oreek, it was agreed to vote LlO to be contributed equally b> the Winton and Watlacetown ridings. B. B. Treloar applied for permission to cart the nightsoil from InvercargUl over the County roid to hja property at Seaward Moss.— James Harvey, solicitor, on behalf of farmers and residents, asked the Council to safeguard the public health, by insisting on a suitable depot being selected and proper precautions for rendering the stuff harmless and inoffensive. — Mr Harvey appeared before the Council, and urged that the request of the contractor should not be granted until the question had been thoroughly thieahed out aud some satisfactory arrangement come to.— The Chairman and Councillors Hut, Baldey, and Fleming were appointed a committee to investigate the subject of disposing of nightsoil with power to take legal opinion, and to confer with the Borough Council if deemed advisable. —To report at December meeting. The Council by speoial order passed the following resolution s— " That all those parts of Kana street- in the town of Mataura Bridge designed for footpaths shall, from and after this date, be under the exclusive control of the Town Uoard of the Town District of Mataura, and that the cost of constructing and maintaining such footpaths shall be borne by the said Town District in terms of the_ Public Works Aot Amendment Act, 1887," such resolution to be confirmed at a future meeting. Jajnes Anderson complained that R. Trotter had not removed gates obstructing roads, as ordered by the Council.— Writer to be informed that & reasonable time will be allowed Mr Trotter to fence ro»d line.
