New Zealand four per cent, stock, 107 ; 3|per cent, stock, 97£. New Zealand long-berried wheat, 39s 6d per quarter — market firm. For wheat on passage sellers ask 37s 9d pec quarter* and buyers offer sixpence less. Adelaide wheat, 39d 6d — market firm ; Victorian, 39s — -market quiet. Flour, patenfc, 24s tfcl. Colonial oafs, common average, 22a 63. per qnarter. Frozen meat — Canterbury mutton, 4jd per lb ; Wellington, 4d 7-lfft,hs per lb ; Canterbury lamb, 7d — stocks low ; beef t, fores), 3£d per lb ; hinds, 4 d per lb. Hemp — Wellington, fair average, L 24 per ton ; inferior, average, L2l Ids. Svgar — German beet, 13s 9d, and Java cane, 15a 6d per owt. — market in each case firm. I'ig iroD, f.o.b. on Clyde, 47s per ton. Wool— The quantity catalogue to date is 328,000 bales. Ten thousand bales have been held over, and 200,000 have been sold for export. Admiral Hornby, who wasrecently injured by being thrown from a dog oart, is rocovering. It is reported that Russia will shortly withdraw guld to the amount of a million and a half from the Bank of England. The Times states that the joint stock banks favours the publication of frequent reports regarding their total balances. It also states that they will keep larger reserves if the Bank of England will not guarautee advances in cases of emergency. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is estimated at 2,144,000 quarters, aud for the Continent 924,000 quarters. PARIS, Feb. 27. M. Deroulede's fulminatidaJ against the Dowager Empress Frederick of Germany has induoed French artiata to refuse her in vita tion to send painting to the F.xhibition at Berlin. There is great excitement in connection with the visit of the Empress Frederick. M. Deroulede's article denouncing the Empress was posted in the vestibule of the Chamber of Deputies. He has abandoned further demonstrations against the Empress, as she left for England to-day. WASHINGTON, Fkb. 27. The committee appointed by the House of Representatives has sent in a report acquitting members of Congress of having had any interest in the collapsed silver pool. BERLIN, Feb. 27. The Cologne Gazette, in a fiercely-worded article, protests against the villainons insults to which tlie Dowager Empress Frederick has been subjected in France. Her trratment. it characterises as one of the deadliest insults that could be offered to the German nation, and it calls on M. Freycinet, the Fi euoh Minister of War, to punUh tbe wretches, whom it describee as the scum of society, who have been guilty of it.
