The Bowling Tournament.
(By Telegraph.) Christchtoich, Feb. 9. The N.Z. Boiling Association tournament commenced to-day. The Dunedin clubs have entered 11 rinks ; Green Island club 2 rinks ; Lawrence, Milton and Taieri 1 each ; Oamaru clubs 5 ; Wellington club 2 ; Christchurch clubs 13. Three rinks from Timaru will compete, not in the tournament, but for medals giren by the Association for com petition among clubs. The first games played were the inter-club matches, Canterbury v. Caledonian (, Dunedin) and Canterbury v. Roslyn. The games resulted as follows : — Canterbury, No. 1 rink, 20; No. 3, 27 ; No. 4, 11— total, 58. Caledonian No. 1, 20 ; No. 3, 13 ; No. 4, 33 —total, 66. Canterbury No. 2 rink, 10 ; No. 5, 13— total, 23. Roslyn No. 2 rink, 30 ; No. 5, 20— total 50. Winners : Caledonian by eight points, and Roslyn by 27 points. On the Christchurch green the local club beat the Caledonians by 34 points. The match was played at three rinks, the scores being as follows : — Dr Thomas' rink (Christchurch), 19, beat J. Blaney's (Caledonian), 14 ; Jackson's, 35, beat Barlow's, 10 ; Woods', 22, beat Hogg'a, 18— total : Christchurch, 76 ; Caledonian, 42. The Christchurch Club beat Roslyn by 7 points at two rinks : Struthers', 26 ; Carton's, 26 ; Cuff's, 26; Matheson's, 19— total : Christchurch, 52 ; Roslyn, 45. On the Canterbury green Dunedin beat Canterbury by 18 points. Scores — A. T. Anderson's (Dunedin), 13; Penf old's (Canterbury), 28 ; Sneddon's, 33 ; Toomer's 5 ; Hunter's, 23 ; Coleman's 18 — total : Dunedin, 69 ; Canterbury, 51. Canterbury beat Green Island by three points at two rinks. Scores — Hales' (Canterbury), 28 ; Smith's (Green Island), 12 ; Harris', 17 ; Samson's, 30. Total— Canterbury, 45 ; Green Island, 42. All the matches were of 21 heads.
